Devon's Teign Shanty Festival 2019 raising funds for: RNLI Rowcroft Hospice Teign Heritage Centre Alice Cross Centre
Date: 28 September 19 — 29 September 19 | Report this event.
Entrance Price free Per person
Teignmouth and Shaldon will play host to anything at least 26 shanty groups performing in 15 venues and providing over 120 hours of “free to attend” shanty singing. The towns will be filled with music, singing and infused with a great community spirit. One of the shanty groups attending, “The Longest Johns”, appeared on Gareth Malone’s television program “The Choir” in 2017.
There promises to be something for everyone, with multiple performances being given at the same time across a range of venues – mainly local hostelries – as well as outdoor ad hoc flash mob shanty singing and workshops where people can learn more about the origins of shanties. The event is also being supported by a number of South Devon breweries.
Dedicated collections will be made for the charities listed above. Teign Shanty Festival will also donate annually any surplus funds arising from our activities. All charitable collections will be divided equally amongst our chosen charities.
