The Brass Band Festival
The world famous Hardraw Scaur Brass Band Festival is Britain’s second oldest outdoor contest and takes place annually the second Sunday of September. Starting time is 10 am although it is advisable to arrive early and please bring your own fold up chair. After the completion of the competition, the concert MC will introduce the Finale program. This is the traditional end to the day which takes the form of an impromptu concert given by the massed bands drawn from those who have competed in the contest. The contest is presented by the Yorkshire & Humberside Brass Band Association in partnership with Mark and Yvonne and with support from Theakstons Brewery…
Car Parking is located in an nearby field within a short walk of the Inn and the bandstand site (there is a small charge) and alternative arrangements will be made in the event of inclement weather conditions. It is not possible to take vehicles onto the site. Disabled access may be possible at pre-arranged times – please contact the management at the Heritage Centre to arrange this. The contest takes place in the open air, and while some seating is provided, it will guarantee your comfort if you bring your own chairs…
Also, depending on the weather conditions, warm and waterproof clothing, sun-cream. sun hat and midge repellent are likely to enhance your enjoyment of the day – the bands will play whatever the weather! Refreshments are available both on site and in The Green Dragon. A fantastic day out. Tickets available on the gate.
