Tynwald Day

Each year in early July, Tynwald meets in the open air to promulgate new laws and receive petitions for redress.

Tynwald Day is the Island’s national day and it is marked on the 5th July by a spectacle of fair tents, flags and formal ceremony featuring Guard of Honour, Military Bands and entertainment. On this day in midsummer the Manx Parliament, Islanders, Manx descendants and invited guests gather at the ancient site of Tynwald Hill for an open air ceremony. Their intentions are to hear the laws of the Island proclaimed, as well as protest, petition and air grievances.
